Badge Program

Welcome to the Ansteorran MoC Badge Program!

A Propasal

That the ministry of Children be allowed to award badges in various areas of expertise under its own auspices to the Children of Ansteorra.
That these badges be non-armigerous, carrying no rank or precedence in the Court of Ansteorra.
That these badges be accompanied by a scroll stating the time, date, and nature of the accomplishment denoted by the badge and that this scroll be signed by the kingdom minister of Children or his/her designee (being an officer of the memory of Children duly warranted).
That accurate documentation of these badge awards be kept by the Kingdom Minister of Children, listing recipient, type of badge, and data and place of its awarding.
That the following minimum criteria be net for a badge to be awarded:
1) The recipient must have attended a class or workshop or seminar held at an official SCA event and given by a qualified person(s).
2) The recipient must have completed a project or activity showing his/her expertise in the field denoted by the badge.
3) The recipient must be able to successfully pass a verbal or written knowledge "test'', given by a qualified person and geared to the recipient's level of knowledge and age. (These three requirements may be met or combined in many ways.)
4) The badge must be awarded by the Kingdom Minister of Children or his/her designee (being an officer of the Ministry of Children duly warranted) in the Court of Ansteorra.
That those eligible to earn these badges shall be any person under the are of eighteen (18) who resides in the Kingdom of Ansteorra and who has fulfilled the forgoing requirements.
That any areas of knowledge watch existed within the time frame defined by the Corpora and bylaws of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Inc. shall be considered possible fiends in which badges may be earned. and that the Ministry of Children be free to add to the number of badges without restriction as long as each meets all of the forgoing criteria.
That badge designs remain constant throughout the Kingdom with the exception that borders denoting the colors of the local group awarding the badge may be added (i.e. Namron may add a black and gold border to the badges awarded at Namron official events, etc.).
That the Minister of Children shall provide for all of his/her officers a copy of the scroll text and a usable scroll blank for the badge awards, and a list of all the badges and badge designs currently in use, to be updated and distributed as needed.
That new badges may be created with the permission of the Minister of Children in areas which members of the Ministry of Children are willing and qualified to teach. *
That Scrolls for the awarding of these badges may be designed by anyone who desires to so benefit the Ministry of Children and submitted to Local or Kingdom Officers of the Ministry of Children, so long of the text is the same as that given were.
That recipients of these badges may display them on a baldric or sash of black bordered in gold. This baldric or sash, colored thus, shall not be restricted in any way as to its use by those not members of the Ministry of Children. * In like manner, the designs of the badges themselves are not registered or restricted in any manner. This is an unofficial award system.
That the purpose of instituting this system of awards within the Ministry of Children is to encourage regular, frequent, and qualified instruction of the Children of Ansteorra in many areas of Medieval and SCA knowledge, and to allow the children to display the attainment of this knowledge in a visible, recognizable, and consistent manner.
*As defined by the Charter of the Ministry of Children, granted on January 10th AS XXI (1987), members of the Ministry of Children include "all persons interested in the well-being of our children and the future of our Kingdom. This can include parents, teachers, instructors, and those wishing to do research and gather information, and the children themselves."
